🔧 Rear Axle Repair on a Ford Galaxy – From Uneven Tire Wear to a Full Suspension Overhaul
A recent case in our workshop involved a Ford Galaxy presenting with what seemed like a minor issue: uneven wear on the outer edge of the rear tires. In reality, it was the result of a common but often overlooked problem with this model — worn suspension arms and a misaligned rear axle geometry.
🔩 The repair included:
Replacement of the rear suspension arms
New adjustment bolts for alignment correction
Installation of a new set of rear suspension springs
🔍 Why does this happen?Over time, suspension components — especially arms and bushings — degrade due to vibration, extra load, and exposure to the elements. For the Ford Galaxy (and similar models like the S-Max), this type of wear becomes increasingly common after 150,000–180,000 km, but symptoms can show up earlier depending on driving style, road quality, and vehicle load.
🛠️ Preventive maintenance recommendation:
Inspect rear suspension geometry and wear every 30,000 km
Replace alignment bolts and worn bushings around 120,000–150,000 km, based on field experience and recommendations from professional service networks
Proper alignment and suspension condition don't just protect your tires — they ensure improved stability, safer handling, and better overall comfort for every trip.
